Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten


VPK Eligibility Criteria

Providers must hold a director credential, be licensed (child care facility, family child care home, or large family child care home) or exempt from licensure (private school or faith-based provider) and meet one of the following:
  • Currently a Gold Seal Quality Care designated facility.
  • Be accredited by an approved accrediting association.
  • Be licensed and demonstrate to the local coalition that the provider meets program requirements.

VPK Program Options

  • School Year Program - 540 Instructional Hours
  • Summer Program - 300 Instructional Hours

VPK Program Basics

  • All providers can participate
  • Class size may not exceed 18 children.
  • Classroom ratio may not exceed: 1 Instructor to 10 children.
  • All VPK instructors must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate for the School Year program or a Bachelor's degree for the Summer program.
  • Curriculum must be developmentally appropriate
